Overview

 
  The Ministry of Agriculture/Land Information Council of Jamaica (LICJ)will be hosting a two (2) day metadata workshop entitled “From Concept to Practice: Dealing with the Backlog”. The workshop will be held on April 29-30, 2008 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the LICJ Geoinformatics lab.  
 
This workshop is in response to the concerns raised from the metadata online questionnaire and aims to increase metadata awareness, collection, maintenance and distribution among all LICJ members.The target audience for this workshop are GIS officers who create, analyse and manipulate geospatial data.The objectives of the workshop are to:
 
 
1 Explain metadata and the importance of metadata production
2 Provide an overview of metadata standards
3 Explore metadata cataloguing practices, guidelines and tools
4 Provide guidance in the implementation of the metadata guidelines
5 Develop a strategic plan for metadata creation and management.
 
  In preparation for the workshop we ask that the following task be completed and taken along with you to the workshop:  
 
1 create an inventory of all datasets and their metadata status
2 formulate a list of the metadata tools that exist in your organization and a list of all person who work with the geospatial data
